Located in Kanda Jimbocho, one of the world’s most prominent bookshop districts, Umi Gallery has been offering works of art for 30 years just a stone’s throw from Marunouchi, the very centre of Tokyo. Staying true to its motto of being “the easiest gallery to buy from”, Umi holds over 200 artworks with a wealth of related information and materials on offer.
Our open-plan gallery on the 4th floor of the Jimbocho flagship store of Sanseido, a long-established and large-scale bookstore, provides a friendly welcome to casual visitors as well as avid art-collectors who visit us frequently from all over Japan.
Our collection comprises a wide range of artists including Tsuguharu Foujita, Keiko Minami, Sadamasa Motonaga, Buffet, Cathelin and Sam Francis, as well as contemporary world-class Japanese artists such as Yayoi Kusama, Yoshitomo Nara and Takashi Murakami. We are happy to ship any of your purchases from the collection overseas.
In 2008 we opened the Museum of Contemporary Art, Karuizawa in the popular summer resort of Karuizawa, focusing on Japanese artists who went overseas to challenge new art movements of the world and thereby won international acclaim.
We look forward to welcoming you at Umi Gallery and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Karuizawa.
